JAPANESE SIZE OF SHELLS

There are various sizes of aerial round shells. Japanese use the "Sun" unit of measurement to classify their shells by size.

1sun = about 3.3 centimeters. There are‚ Qsun shell (6 centimeters across) to 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 sun shell. Next,10 sun=1 shaku. So 30 centimeters shell=12 inches shell called Shaku-dama in Japanese.
Most foreign countries adopt inch measurement units.

There are shells ranging from 2 inches all the way up to 24 inches in size. The largest shell ever fired was a 48" in size. Shells are classified by the inside diameter of the mortar they should be fired from.
